A Long Day Out

So Monday I stayed inside and read. Well, that's how the first half of my day went. The second half was spent being super depressed and heartbroken about finishing the Sookie Stackhouse series.Yes, I did read 2 books in less than 24 hours. What?

I just wanted to mourn my decade long relationship with this series and everyone was like, TIME FOR NEW BOOKS! :(

I also had dinner at the resto U.

Du poisson et des haricots verts

A coffee flavored mousse with almonds?

Surprise! There's a peach and some really sweet syrup.

TUESDAY

I was up early Tuesday morning to go to the school so I could sit in a class. Then realized right before the class began that I had my days mixed up and was sitting in a French lit. class, not British Civilization. Whoops.

After stopping by the FLE (Français Langue Etrangère) office, I tried getting my own username and password for the wifi at the school. No luck with that, as you have to wait until you register. For some reason though, I had this urge to check out the International Office board, where they had dates and times beside everyone's names. Turns out, I get to register and become part of the University of Limoges on Wednesday!

And my classes to sit in will be Wednesday as well.

Right after I got back, I received a message from Lyndsie that she wanted to go see Guy and check some stuff out. We planned to go an hour later so I could take a breather. While I was there I decided to get a sandwich and yogurt from the school.

The French have a strong love for eggs.

Itty bitty spoon!!

I also looked over the registration paper and emailed Guy some questions. While I was looking at the paper though, I met this lovely German girl named Julia! She's super sweet and I love her accent. She also has the prettiest eyes ever! They're like the color of light honey.

Tuesday night, though, was a lot of fun. I met the newest group of Americans: Reed, Cole, Taylor, and Catherine. I don't know if I spelled any of those correctly, but I doubt they'll see this. If they do, they can certainly point out my error and I will fix it.

Anyways, our giant posse of Americans + one wonderful Chinese guy who goes by Josh got on the bus to the center city, and then more-or-less walked aimlessly because no one wanted to make a decision. Fortunately Candice knew where we were so she could at least point us in the direction of food. We chose a place that was literally one of the many places around the center circle, but I didn't catch their name. I will next time though, because there will be a next time.

There we thought we had found a good deal because they had a page of "formules," which are our "combos." You could get an appetizer + entrée or entrée + dessert for 11€, or app + entrée + dessert for 14€50.

Turns out these were lunch combos. Maaaaaan. But again, that's why we're going back.

I ordered the terrine Limousine aux châtaignes for my appetizer, and then the steak haché à cheval.

My first thought was, "oh my gosh, is that horse?!" My second thought: "I'm going for it!"

Terrine

To my dismay, it was just regular beef. The à cheval meant "horseback," as in the egg was riding horseback on the beef.

Oh my gosh, it was so rare. And so much yolk; both things I am not fond of. Together, though, it was pretty good. I just had to get past the raw meat not-very-warm texture.

After dinner the new Americans wanted to go drinking, so we said our goodbyes and headed home. We decided to take the bus back, but it was going to be a few minutes before it would arrive, so we walked up a hill to a gazebo.

Turns out, drunk hobos live in the gazebo. Fortunately we realized pretty quickly and only one guy kept repeatedly asking for money while we walked away. I'm just really glad we had guys with us, and it wasn't just us three girls.

From there we got on the bus and went home.

The group before getting on the bus. :)
